Introduction To Computer

Introduction to Computer

Computer is an electronic device, which can accept data, process and give out the result, we can also define it as an alphanumeric data processing machine.

Advantages

1.High speed dataprocessing
2.Accuracy
3.Diligence(Computer is free from tiredness)
4.Versatility(Computer can be used for different  applications)
5.Memory power

Basic Representation of a Computer System

1. Input Unit

Input unit is used to give data, instructions or informations into the machine.
eg: Keyboard, mouse, scanner ,joystick etc.

2.Processing Unit(CPU)

Central Processing Unit(CPU) is used for data processing, it consist of these parts ALU, Control unit and memory.
In ALU the arithmetic and logic calculations are carriedout.

3.Memory Unit

Memories are the locations for the storage of data.
Memory is classified into following types.

a. Primary memory

Primary memory is the main memory, they are vloatile memory ie; its data will lose when the power is off.
It is the temporary datastorage area, it is high speed and highly.
eg; SD RAM, DDR1, DDR2,DDR3.

b. Secondary memory

It is used for storing data permanently.
eg; Hard disk, Floppy disk.

4.Output Unit

It is used for getting the processed result from machine.
eg; monotor, printer, speaker etc.

Disadvantages of Computer

1.Lack of Intelligence
2.Virus affection

Generation of Computer

Generations&year                                                    Component used

1.First Generation (1946-55)                                         Vacuum tubes
2.Second Generation (1956-65)                                    Transistors
3.Third Generation (1966-75)                                        Integrated Circuits(ICs)
4.Fourth Generation (1976-till)                                       Very Large Scale ICs(VLICs)
5.Fifth Generation (future)                                              Artificial Intelligence(AI)
